About how I like to practice | I appreciates the uniqueness in each of us. By holding that intention, I approach each patient with an open heart and mind to hear his/her/their unique stories. I am committed to cultural competency, trauma informed care, and creating and maintaining safe spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals. I have had many experiences myself as a patient, where I was not seen; therefore inadvertently harmed by those who are here to provide healing. I am committed to shaping our future medical care to better embrace all who live here and those that come to these shores. I currently practice at Sojourns Community Health Clinic in Westminster, Vermont. I am a licensed Naturopathic Physician with a practice focused on Lyme Disease and Tick Borne Diseases (TBD). I completed my residency in Lyme and TBD training, and am currently a voting member affiliated with the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADs). I triage and treats acute tick borne infections and chronic infections utilizing western pharmaceuticals, herbal medicines, and counseling with a focus on Holistic and Nutritional Counseling. While my practice is focused on tick borne diseases, I understand that people are not their diagnoses. I approach each patient holistically, and am always exploring the expansiveness and previous experiences that have led a patient to acquire a pathology. What comes through my door may be labeled as a tick borne disease, but there are a multitude of conditions and events that co-occur or co-exist within a person’s body and life experience. Naturopathic philosophy and a Holistic approach to medicine are keys to assisting people to recovery. Holistic Counseling has become my main tool for facilitating healing within my patients beyond a physical level. While I can provide pharmaceutical and herbal therapies to treat tissue based injuries, Holistic Counseling is how I penetrate deeper and beyond the tissue, create sustainability in a patient’s healing, and empower the innate healing potential in each human’s mind and body. My practice is also greatly informed by my culture as a Chinese American; and the inherent knowledge that comes from being raised in this ancestry. The lessons my grandmothers and grandfathers taught me, acquired from their ancestors, guides my naturopathic philosophies and approaches to healing. These lessons are rooted in folk tradition, farming practices, herbalism, and seeing ourselves as indivisible from nature; its rhythms and cycles. Om Mani Padme Hum |
About me | Hello! My name is Dr. Frank Song Jr. and I am a musician and naturopathic physician currently in the New England Region of the US. I have always felt like music was a part of my soul, and helped me through many hardships in life. I sing the truth…the truth about my experience thus far in life and everything I’ve learned observing my family, friends, patients, and the world. I wasn’t able to write, release my original music, nor practice medicine in a way that was 100% authentic to me, until I came out as gay to my family over New Years 2018 and embraced my identity as an American Born Chinese (ABC). After that it was almost like a flood gate of creative energy opened; because I finally wasn’t scared to create or tell my truth. I write music about my experiences with men as an openly queer individual, the sacrifices my family and ancestors have had to make to provide the privileges that I now get to enjoy, and about the traumas I’ve been through in these short years of my life. I grew up in the Blue Ridge Appalachia region of Northwest Virginia and was raised by my immigrant grandparents and family, so my music and soul encompasses multi-cultural and multi-genre sound including American folk, country, Chinese folk, R&B, and soul. I studied Biology and Anthropology Pre-medicine at the University of Virginia hoping to pursue a medical degree. However, during my freshman year, I was hit by an vehicle while crossing a crosswalk. Western medicine saved my life, and I will forever have gratitude for that. However, the short-comings and limitations of conventional medicine proved to be an obstacle in my recovery. Subsequently, I discovered naturopathic medicine through a Clinical Nutrition practice which helped support me through the rest of my recovery and changed my perspective on health and healing forever. It was the first time a healthcare practitioner focused on healing my mind and supporting my recovery from trans-generational trauma and sexual assault. They looked at my body and my mind as one complete system, and reversed pathologies I had been experiencing even before the accident. I decided I would pursue a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine (ND). My commitment to sharing this healing experience with other patients have led me to become certified in Holistic Counseling as a Vis Dialogue Practitioner. I look forward to working with anyone who seeks a companion and guide on this journey of healing and recovery. |
